Welcome to the Peterborough Children's Services Procedures Manual
In Peterborough City Council, we use localised language of ‘Children in our care’ rather than ‘Looked After Children’.
Family Valued (FV) is a whole system change programme being implemented into Peterborough Childrens Services which seeks to promote and strengthen relational and restorative practice as the way we provide support and work together. It is underpinned by the key relational principle of working with children and families rather than doing things to or for them.
We aim to do this by fostering a clear set of shared values and practice principles which emphasise the strengths and importance of families as experts in their own lives. It focuses on strengthening positive working relationship within teams, between practitioners and families, with partner agencies and the wider community. This is achieved through the adoption and embedding of shared restorative language, culture, behaviours, ways of working and being.
Relational and restorative practice will be at the heart of the Peterborough Practice Framework and is also a key element of our ambition to be a Child Friendly city.
These procedures are designed to support front-line practitioners and managers with good practice and play an important role in ensuring the quality and timeliness of our work in achieving the best outcomes for children and their families. They will continue to be updated regularly to reflect national and local changes to legislation, policy and practice.
